A Reason to Get Up

Everyone looks for a reason to get up each day

Some do it for nothing but a kiss

or perhaps a cup of coffee

Others have a harder time

with no bus to catch

no hand to hold

no reason

at all

No home

No love

And yet I crawl

out from this tunnel,

this doorway or alleyway

casting aside a tattered blanket

always hoping the day will be kind,

that some stranger will show me respect

I may be homeless but I'm not yet hopeless
