William... in his own words

I’m a writer, artist, and poet originally, from a little town northeast of Cincinnati, Ohio. I’ve wandered a lot… Hell, I still tend to wander. I’m something of a free spirit and something of a free thinker. I can be simple, yet, at the same time, complicated, but then my ex wife always said I was a man of contradictions. Of course she also said I was stuck in the sixties, about which she was wrong I am more of a 70s child.
At any rate, I never saw a problem with either. I’ve never been an all or nothing kinda guy. I don’t like being labeled or being put into other peoples or societies little molds of how one should be. I think I am too eclectic and too egalitarian to ever fit into any particular tradition or category. And I think that people who demand others to fit into nice little boxes or molds are just too damned scared of people who are different that all they can see is that things and people who are different threaten the fabric of their society… or maybe their idea of reality. Fear’s a wonderful thing, ain’t it? It’s sad really… because any society that doesn’t embrace and encourage diversity is bound to stagnate and eventually crumble.
This doesn’t mean I am like a leaf on the wind. I don’t follow every idea that passes through the media or the world. I have my rules and convictions. To a large extent I have a simple worldview: celebrate diversity in all things and do what you want long as it brings no harm to others. But that is the tricky part. Sometimes knowing what brings no harm requires a lot of thought. Nor does following this path necessarily mean venturing into irresponsibility or selfishness. Actually, abject selfishness tends to piss me off for some reason. Well, to be honest, I know the reason. I once walked that path of selfishness and left a good deal of carnage in my wake. Follow your own path, but do it with some consideration of others, and the world you live in……
My point is simply this. I’m open minded but I do have principles and ethics, It’s just that some days I may want attention, others I may want to give attention. To some degree all of us are attention addicts otherwise we wouldn’t be out here. Most days I’m just looking for interesting conversation that will make me smile, laugh, think and maybe, just maybe, inspire or enlighten me a little bit.
